A close-knit congregation fractures along gender lines after a catastrophe at their synagogue in this nicely observed dramedy. -Variety

The women of a tight-knit Orthodox congregation band together when their balcony comes crashing down in the middle of a bar mitzvah. Nobody even considered that the cause could be anything other than faulty construction, until Rabbi David—the righteous and ultra-observant young leader who takes the congregation under his wing—announces the tragedy as a message from God, as he goes about rebuilding the synagogue without restoring a vantage point in the sanctuary for the women. Torn between conforming to another man’s interpretation of female modesty and their own autonomy, this group of strong-willed and strong-mouthed women rise from the dust of their fallen temple to assert themselves against Orthodox patriarchy.

This endearing and warm-hearted feature lovingly explores the struggles of the community it represents while revealing how a group of determined women can accomplish anything!

The Women’s Balcony premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Since its debut, it has screened theatrically in Israel and at the Israel Film Festival and the Boston Jewish Film Festival. Colorado Premiere.
