For the Love of Spock

Director: Adam Nimoy

2016/USA/105 minutes

Documentary/Biography/Pop Culture/Star Trek

English, No Subtitles

In this personal and intimate documentary, and in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, Adam Nimoy explores the life and career of his father, Leonard Nimoy, while also delving into the cultural phenomenon that was his iconic role as the beloved Vulcan, Mr. Spock.

Featuring clips from Nimoy’s career and inspiring interviews with the Star Trek cast past and present, including William Shatner, George Takei, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, director Adam Nimoy has crafted a loving tribute to not only his father, but also to the man and cultural icon we know as Mr. Spock.  Adam not only shares details on the creation, evolution, and universal impact of Mr. Spock, but also about the ups and downs of being the son of a TV icon.  And you may be surprised to learn that Leonard Nimoy’s strong connection to Judaism contributed to his artistic choices, especially as a renowned theatre actor and director.

For the Love of Spock had its World Premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. Since then, the film has screened theatrically in select cities all around the county, for both Trekkies and culture-lovers alike.

Join us for our fun and friendly Star Trek themed opening night celebration, where we will offer a toast to 21 years of Jewish cinema in Colorado as well as the hope that the festival will continue to “live long and prosper”!
