Winter/Spring Ceramics Classes
The Frankel Clay Studio features electric high fire clay and glazes, a slab roller, an extruder, four electric and eight kick wheels as well as a whole array of tools.
Our outstanding team of instructors, fabulous students and well-equipped studio all contribute to an educational experience that is fun and inviting. This class is open to students who have previous experience working with clay. Group projects are introduced at the beginning of the session and then students have the opportunity to pursue their own ideas in a supervised environment. The focus of this class is hand-building, but wheel-throwers are more than welcome.

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at wheel-throwing or have tried it before and wanted to get back to it? In this class instructor Todd Redmond will demonstrate the basics of throwing on the wheel. In addition to technique, he will talk about form, glazing, firing, and more. This is a great opportunity to put some relaxation and fun into your week.

Raku Workshop: Alternative Low FiringsAges 15 and up
Sundays, April 21 and May 5, 10am – 1pm; and May 19, 10am – 2pm (3 weeks)

Instructor: Bob Smith
This three week workshop being offered by local artist Bob Smith. During the first session students will meet at the Frankel Clay Studio at MACC for a demonstration by Bob demonstrating form and surface techniques that will be appropriate for the subsequent firings. During the next two sessions the class will meet at Bob’s studio in Idledale for a naked raku and then foil saggar firing. This is an excellent opportunity to work with an expert in the field of raku firing. Students will leave the end of the workshop with several pieces that have rich, lustrous surfaces that can only be achieved through Bob’s methods. Come join the fun and excitement of outdoor firing!
